How to be Prepared for Class

What should I bring to class?

  • Treats: You will want treats that are small, easy to handle and easy for your dog to eat quickly. Avoid milkbones or other crunchy treats that may make crumbs. Soft treats cut into small pieces work best. Bring more than you think you will need! Feel free to ask if you need suggestions for good training treats.

  • Treat pouch/bag: This is not required, but can be very helpful. A fanny pack will work or there are many commercially available dog treat pouches. You want something that is easy to reach into to grab treats but will not spill when you are moving around. If you prefer not to use a treat pouch, pockets work fine too!

  • Clicker: this is provided to you on your first night of class. Please remember to bring it with you to class each week.

  • Leash: A 4-6' regular leash is required for all classes. No retractable leashes allowed.

  • Collar and/or harness: A flat buckle collar is recommended. Other acceptable options include a gentle leader or other head halter or a harness. Harnesses are not allowed at agility classes for safety reasons. No prong collars, choke chains or electronic collars are allowed.

  • Water: Please bring water and a bowl for your dog.

  • Some classes may require other specific equipment. Please refer to the course description for your class for any special requirements.

Does my dog come to the first night of class? Please check the course description for your class to see whether dogs are welcome on the first night of class or not. Some classes meet 'humans only' on the first night of the session to cover class expectations and learn the basic of clicker training.

Can my spouse or kids come to class? Family members are always welcome to attend class, especially if they will be a part of training the dog at home. We ask that that children are mature enough to be quiet and respectful throughout the entire class. Children under 16 must always be accompanied by a parent during class.
