Frequently Asked Questions

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever lays upside down with legs in air

What class should I take first?

If you have a puppy under 18 weeks old, check out Puppy Kindergarten. If your dog is over 18 weeks old, Obedience & Life Skills 1 is the class for you. If your dog has already taken Obedience 101 or has taken a similar class elsewhere, consider trying out an agility or tricks class. See all of our currently available classes here.

What if my dog is aggressive or reactive towards other dogs?

Dogs that are aggressive or highly reactive towards other dogs or humans or are not allowed in group classes. Private lessons are more suitable for these situations and can often be used to get dogs to place where they can be successful in a group class. If you are not sure if your dog is ready for a group class, please contact us

What if I have taken classes somewhere else? Where should I start?

The course description for each class will list the prerequisite classes and/or skills so that you can determine whether the class will be a good fit for your dog. If you are looking to join an agility class and your dog has previous agility experience, please contact us to discuss what class will be the best fit.

What is your refund policy?

There will be no refund of class registration fees unless the class session is canceled or if requested in writing at least one week prior to the class start date. A refund may be given with less than one week notice if the spot can be filled from the waiting list or due to extenuating circumstances at the discretion of Blue Ribbon Dogs staff.

Can I bring more than one dog to the same class?

Each dog must have a dedicated handler during class time. It is not allowed to bring two dogs and split class time between the two. Some agility classes may be an exception to this rule.

What vaccinations does my dog need to attend class?

All dogs must be current on Rabies and Distemper/Parvo vaccines for the duration of their class at BRD.  Proof of current vaccines must be provided to BRD before dogs will be allowed to attend any training sessions or classes. This can be uploaded when registering for a class, emailed to blueribbondogsmn@gmail.com or a physical copy can be brought to the first night of class.

What if I am sick or my dog is sick and we miss class?

Please do not bring a sick dog to class. If your dog is coughing, sneezing, vomiting or having diarrhea please keep them at home. You are welcome to attend class without your dog and we will supply you any materials you may have missed. â€‹

What if class is canceled because of weather? How will I be notified?

Safety is our first priority. Classes will be canceled due to weather at the discretion of BRD staff. If class is canceled, a make-up session will be scheduled to replace it. Class cancellations will be posted on the website and facebook page. Additionally, all students enrolled in the affected classes will receive an email and a text message.
